A NEW BUILDING!
With the generosity of individuals and organizations, we have raised USD $26,000 over the past two years to construct a new school building. In January of 2018, construction began to expand the premises for the growing student body of the Light of Future school. With 120 students from Gr. 1 - Gr 4, they will have classrooms for their studies and until they burst at the seams, a library! |
A Customized Storybook Comes To Cambodia!
Don't Be Late For School! In an effort to introduce reading for fun, engage learners and to introduce Khmer and English in context, a project initiated by Just Cauze resulted in an story with the theme of transportation. Using photographs of local modes of transportation and digitalized into cartoon images, children can follow the adventure of Srey Tok as she goes to school...taking the long way to get there! Written by Elaine Crebo and illustrated by Hong Kong high school students Erika Makino and Disha Shetty, the story is the first in a series. |
Sewing School the sequel
The Ogopogo Rotary club of Kelowna, BC and Rotary Foundation donated USD $6,400 to create a sewing school in Koi village Kratie province. Opened in December 2016, the sewing school is operated by Cambodian Care under the leadership of Koy and Renny Chhim. Following graduation, the seamstresses will operate from their homes and produce uniforms and other items under contract for a fair wage. The project is the first step towards sustainability as profits from sewing contracts will go toward the operational costs of the elementary school.
